THE STANDARD GUIDE TO: DIY at Home Facial

STEP 1: CLEANSE

Using basic household ingredients, you can create a facial scrub and mask tailored to your skin type. Always start with clean canvas, wash your face. use your favorite cleanser to wash away makeup, dirt and sweat, using warm water. olive oil, almond oil or jojoba oil are also great for removing makeup when used with a damp towel.





STEP 2: EXFOLIATE

Exfoliating is very important, it helps remove dead skin and makes way for the fresh layer underneath.. Apply exfoliation scrub using a gentle, circular motion. If you do not have an exfoliation scrub you can make one at home using one of these methods: 

For oily skin: mix 1 teaspoon sugar, 1 teaspoon honey and 1 teaspoon water

For normal skin: 1 teaspoon ground oatmeal, 1 teaspoon honey and 1 teaspoon milk

For dry skin: mix 1 teaspoon ground almonds, 1 teaspoon honey and 1 teaspoon olive oil



STEP 3: RINSE

Rinse your face using lukewarm or room temperature water. Be sure to remove product and pat face lightly to dry.





STEP 4: THE FACE MASSAGE

First, massage your cheeks with your fingertips using a wide circular motion. Move your fingers up to your nostrils, over your cheekbones and back around. Repeat for one minute.

Second, massage your forehead, starting with the temples and moving in toward the center. Repeat for one minute.

Now, massage your eye area, starting at the arch of your brow, moving down past the outer corner of your eyes, sweeping under your eyes toward your nose, and back up to your brows. Repeat for 60 seconds.



STEP 5: STEAM

Steaming your face opens your pore and allows impurities to leave the skin. Using a small pot, let water come to a simmer and drape a towel over your head and place your face over the pot, so that the steam hits your face. Keep water steaming for face for three to five minutes, then turn off the stove or heat source.

- To make an herbal steam, add five drops of lavender essential oil or peppermint extract.

- You can also use herbal teabags; try chamomile or mint.







STEP 6: FACE MASK

Face masks also help with removing impurities from the skin. Rub the ingredients smoothly over your skin and let it sit 20 minutes. Again remove face mask with warm water.

Below are recipes based on skin type...

For anytype of skin: use plain honey; it has both moisturizing and antibacterial properties great for any skin.

or oilyskin: mix 1 teaspoon cosmetic clay and 1 tablespoon honey

For normalskin: mix 1 tablespoon yogurt and 1 tablespoon honey

For dryskin: mix 1/2 mashed banana and 1 tablespoon honey

Extras:

To reduce eye place cucumber slices over your eyes for about five minutes.

To help with dry, chapped lips use a toothbrush to scrub away dead skin and Apply lip chap or vaseline when finished.



STEP 7: TONE & MOISTURIZE

A toner helps close your pores after you've completed  the facial.

At home toner ingredients:

lain cool water

1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar mixed with 1 teaspoon cool water

Witch hazel

Rosewater

Last but not least moisturize using your favorite store bought moisturizer or: 

For oily skin: jojoba oil or aloe

For normal skin: olive oil or almond oil

For dry skin: coconut oil or argan oil

P.S. WAIT at least 2-3 hours before applying make-up
